While writing and learning the tunes on LilyGild I felt a strong pull to explore the real- ness of who we are and how we sometimes unnecessarily embellish the beauty we have inside.

In order to fit in, we may take ourselves on mysterious and confusing journeys just to end up where we are right now. I wanted Lilygild to remind us that we are simple, beautiful creatures, filled with unique charms that need no adornment.

I also wanted this album to show my love for old-time music and for writing music on the banjo. Many tunes were written along with short stories while I was staying in Northern, NY. Some of the music I was writing at this time became moody cinematic, electronic piano and banjo music, while the LilyGild tunes became what you hear before you now.

I hope this music lightens the bottom of your shoes, and inspires you to create your own songs! Thank you for listening. -Hilary
